A Pop Up Tent City will offer the newest “glamping” experience in outback Queensland for visitors to the rodeo in August.
Isa Rodeo manager Natalie Flecker said she was excited to introduce “glamping” (glamorous camping) as a first for Mount Isa and outback Queensland.
“This is a great opportunity to expand the number of beds in town so we can welcome even more visitors to Mount Isa during rodeo time,” she said.
From August 5 to 9, the Isa Rodeo’s Pop Up Tent City will offer two levels of accommodation – standard tents (a tent already erected for you with bed included) or the more up-market Flash Camp.
The latter offers deluxe tents.
Also included will be a hearty, country-style breakfast each morning of the three-day rodeo, the largest and richest in the southern hemisphere.
“After a thrilling day of rodeo action, the Pop Up Tent City will be the ultimate escape,” Ms Flecker said.
“We think it will appeal to people who are keen to combine attending a legendary outback rodeo with the comfort of luxury camping.”
The Isa Rodeo’s Pop-up Tent City offers accommodation in luxury bell tents, clean showers, toilets and relaxing communal areas. It will be located within walking distance of the CBD with frequent shuttle services to the rodeo grounds.
While music festivals such as the Byron Bay Falls Festival have featured a pop up Flash Camp, it will be a first for a major outback event in Australia, according to Flash Camp co-director Cameron Arnold, who is based in Byron Bay.
“It’s pretty exciting to be at the Mount Isa Rodeo, it’s one of the bigger regional events,” Mr Arnold said.
“Flash Camp creates a sanctuary away from the hustle and bustle of the event. So far, we’ve had a real cross-section of guests from families through to young couples and mature-age visitors.”
The 57th annual Mount Isa Mines Rotary Rodeo will feature Australia’s richest rodeo and a festival including live concerts headlined by The Wolfe Brothers, a free family mardi gras, street party, Fred Brophy’s Outback boxing troupe, bush poets breakfast and much more.
Ms Flecker said all rodeo accommodation and tickets, including the Pop Up Tent City, would go on sale this month via the event website, www.isarodeo.com.au.
“If you’ve ever wanted to experience an iconic Australian outback rodeo, and love the idea of a bit of luxury, book soon as our Pop Up Tent City will have limited availability,” she said. The Pop Up Tent City has been introduced with the support of Tourism and Events Queensland.
