SIOUX CENTER—A pair of friends is looking to help Sioux Center residents say goodbye to stinky, dirty, fly infested trash bins.
Eric Foster, 33, of Sioux Center and Brett Buyert, 32, of Ireton have launched B.E. Clean Bins through which they offer interior and exterior washing of garbage and recycle bins along with antibacterial sanitizing and an application of fly and insect repellent.
“We’re excited to offer this to the community,” Buyert said. “We hope to grow to offer our services to other communities as well but wanted to start with Sioux Center as that’s hometown for both of us and we feel the community would appreciate this service.”
“Sioux Center, too, takes pride in having a clean community and this is one way we feel we can meet a need,” Foster said. “It’s not something currently offered and while it could be something people try on their own, not many people want to do it or even try as a garden hose doesn’t really work to clean these bins well.”
The three-step process they offer takes just a few minutes and it starts with scheduling a time for them to come to your home as their mobile washing equipment is designed to wash bins on the spot so customers don’t have to wait for a return time. The equipment can clean two containers simultaneously.

A disinfectant is applied to the inside and outside of the bin before it’s hoisted upside down to over cleaning heads that blast hot water to remove dirt and debris. The mobile trailer also comes equipped with a wand sprayer for use in cleaning the outside of the bin.
The final step includes applying the fly and insect repellent before returning the bin to the owner’s curb.

They offer monthly, every-other-month and one-time wash service options. Each fee is per bin.
If there’s enough interest from customers in other Sioux County communities, the duo would be happy to establish routes outside of Sioux Center.
“Ultimately, we’d love to see this grow to having two or three mobile trailers, maybe even going over to the Okoboji area,” Buyert said. “The trailer comes equipped with an industrial power washer so we could add services like cleaning larger dumpsters, maybe even driveways.”
While those services aren’t available yet, Buyert encourages those interested to give him or Foster a call so they know if there’s interest or a need.
“We began smaller, too, because we both have full-time jobs, but we would love to see this grow,” Foster said.
Foster works for Van Holland Lawn Service in Sioux Center and Buyert sells seed, chemicals and offers aerial applications via drones through his business, Buyert Ag Solutions by Ireton as well as works for a farmer near Hawarden.
Seeing a video of bin washing equipment a couple of years ago inspired the friends to bring that business to the area.
“We’ve been friends since grade school and have always wanted to do a business together but at that time we were not in a place in our lives financially to start a business just yet,” Foster said. “Last winter we reevaluated the idea and felt we were ready to give it a try as it really came up that if we’re going to do this, why not do it now?”
They approached Brommers Sanitation in Sioux Center to inquire if they already had plans for the service.
“We were given their blessing to do this,” Buyert said. “When a family that’s been involved in the garbage business for decades tells us they see a need but couldn’t provide the service and would support us starting this up, that really made us more excited about this business idea.”
They worked with a business out of Watertown SD, to piece the mobile trailer together. While they initially sent out postcards hoping to start their business in the spring, supply chain delays led to their fully-equipped mobile trailer being ready just last week, kicking off this week as their first week in business.
B.E. Clean Bins services — a name inspired by business owners’ names, Brett and Eric — are available approximately April-November depending on spring and fall weather.
“It only takes one bag of garbage waste containing common household items like napkins, tissues, eggs, diapers, raw meat, spoiled milk and rotting produce to infect your trash bins with germs and bacteria, and it only takes one touch to get that bacteria on you,” Buyert said, noting he has a wife and two children. “I know how quickly a kid puts their hand in their month. Just having our bins clean gives our family a little piece of mind. Let us help you have the same.”
