One of the largest housing associations in the south west has taken its repairs service in-house.
DCH, formerly Devon & Cornwall Housing, will deliver repairs in Cornwall through an 80-strong repairs team, following the conclusion of a contract with Mears.
The 22,500-home landlord already uses its in-house service to carry out repairs in Devon, with the expansion meaning a total of 220 contractors work for the service.
It follows London-based landlords Affinity Sutton and Southern, which also expanded internal repairs services in the past few weeks.
Doug Stein, group director of asset management, said: ‘This is a landmark decision because, for the first time, we are in direct control of all our key repairs services. Our main repair aim is to do the ‘right job and to get it right first time’.
The landlord said it expects to make annual savings in excess of £500,000, beginning immediately, as a result of going in-house.
